Common questions

Can you cut on concrete?
We don’t know of any type of counter material that you can cut on and concrete is no different. First of all you will ruin your knife if you cut on concrete. Secondly, you could scratch through the sealer, which would make your counter susceptible to stains. I strongly recommend using cutting boards. With that said, a custom built integral cutting board is one of our favorite design aspects that can only be done with concrete counters

Can you place a hot pot on a concrete counter?
We would not recommend putting a hot pot on any counter top surface. Heat won’t have any affect on concrete but our counters are also sealed and waxed and heat could damage the sealer. We strongly recommend using hot pads or adding trivets into your counter design, which once again can only be done with concrete counters.
Will concrete counters crack or chip?
We add reinforcements to our concrete counters to help eliminate structural cracks. Sometimes small cracks form, this happens over time and you won't be able to feel these patina cracks like on fine china. In the unfortunate instance were a chip from a dropped heavy pot or a crack from a new home settling does occur it’s not the end of the world. Chips and cracks can be filled and repaired with matching filler. Unlike other stone surfaces, concrete counters can be repaired, resurfaced, and resealed similar to hard wood floors.
Do concrete counters have to be gray?
The biggest advantage of concrete counters is the absolute endless possibilities of colors. Concrete can be dyed, colored, and acid stained. From bright blue to bone white the only limitation is your imagination. We recommend one of our more earth tone colors; natural looking stone colors don't become out dated over time. On the other hand, if you want a wild green or yellow for a unique bathroom or extreme kitchen, we can easily design your counters to reflect your enthusiasm. We can imbed shells, fossils, glass, metals, coins, tools, geodes, or anything else that is flat into your counters, which add another, bit your personal touch to your kitchen.
Will there be seams?
We design your counter with as few seams a possible. Sometimes due to location, size, and weight, we do separate pieces with a controlled cut. Using strips of metal, sharp angles, soft curves, interlocking shapes, and contrasting colored grouts we can actually incorporate a seam into the overall design. The seams can also be placed in locations that don’t draw attention and filled with clear silicon which blend the seam into the counter.
